Equal Rural
The Project
The Equal Rural project focuses on women in the agricultural sector and is focused on promoting their participation and representation in all posts in the sector, including those related to leadership and decision-making positions, benefiting even under the same conditions ( for example, equal pay).
For this to be possible, an intervention project was outlined that focuses, firstly, on the identification of practices/measures that can boost their participation and representation and that end with situations of discrimination and inequality.
Then, the project focuses on raising awareness, recognizing and valuing the role and work carried out by women.
Finally, the project focuses on empowering women in areas where they experience difficulties or for which they are not properly trained.
This project will be implemented at the Iberian level, in Portugal and Spain, and will work as a pilot project that can be replicated in different European contexts where the social problem also occurs, with the necessary adjustments to each context.
Aim
To enhance the participation and representation of women in all positions in the agricultural sector,
including those related to leadership and decision-making positions.
Target audience
Specific aim 1
Identify good practices in terms of inclusion, participation and representation of women in the agricultural sector.
Specific aim 2
Raise awareness of the role and importance of women in this very important sector, creating awareness of the work that women develop, celebrating their successes and recognizing their potential.
Specific aim 3
Train women so that they can assume themselves as active agents in the agricultural sector in all positions, namely in leadership and decision-making positions.
Target Audience
The direct target group of this project are women active in the agricultural sector. It is this target group that the project wants to directly impact and reach, to promote the improvement of their quality of life, helping to eradicate situations of inequality and discrimination that they may be subject to and that condition their access, participation and representation in leadership and decision-making positions. With this project, we plan to directly reach around 2,000 women in the agricultural sector.
As an indirect target group, we highlight two main groups:
Agents with powers of decision and creation/adjustment/implementation of policies (for example, political decision-makers; agents with positions at the cooperative level; entrepreneurs, etc). Because we want the sectors and agents that influence the current situation of women to be aware of what needs to be changed.
It is fundamental for Equal Rural to intervene with these groups as well. Since they are the agents with the power to influence and change the current situation of women in the agricultural sector, we understand that it is necessary to raise awareness of what can and should be done.
With this project, we plan to reach around 400 agents with decision-making power.
Society in general: changing behavior on the part of society in general is essential to eradicate the current paradigm of discrimination and inequality which women are still the target of.
It is essential that there is a process to raise this group’s awareness of the challenges that women face, but also of the importance of their role and their potential as an engine of society.
With this project, we expect to reach 10,000 people in this group.
